thursdaybanner16.png

As humans, we tend to contradict ourselves on a regular basis. Case in point: the 13 pairs of proverbs below, researched by yours truly, for this week’s Thursday Thirteen. Enjoy!

1. Look before you leap
He who hesitates is lost

2. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again
Don’t beat your head against a brick wall

3. Absence makes the heart grow fonder
Out of sight, out of mind

4. Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today
Don’t cross the bridge until you come to it

5. More haste less speed
Time waits for no man

6.
You’re never too old to learn
You can’t teach an old dog new tricks

7. A word to the wise is sufficient
Talk is cheap

8. It’s better to be safe than sorry
Nothing ventured, nothing gained

9. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth
Beware of Greeks bearing gifts

10. Hitch your wagon to a star
Don’t bite off more than you can chew

11. Don’t judge a book by its cover
Clothes make the man

Opposites attract

The pen is mightier than the sword
Actions speak louder than words

I now know why I can't make decisions - and have just given myself permission to always do what I want. If they can't agree on it, why should I have to listen to any of them. Loved your list. I know it took you a while to put it together.

This was FABULOUS! I think it is cause we need some kind of cliche to tell people in ANY situation, based on what they need to hear! hahaha

So basically, whatever you want to do, you can find a saying to back you up! :-) Works for me!

My TT is the much less amusing 13 ways to make your office move easier.

So what's a person to do?

Happy TT, come visit me.

Excellent points and thinking; you are totally right about the contradictions in our lives.

So. What's the right thing to do, then?

I remember when I was young actually pondering both on number 3 and trying to decide which one was more true.

These are great. A real exercise for my mind...and I loved the unphotographable link you left me.

ROFL!! Those are awesome. It's funny how we like to contradict ourselves.

Hi Christine,

Thanks for visiting my meme blog. I posted the same list like you got here last March. Hehe. Anyway, the picture is really interesting!

makes one wonder if the human race is schizophrenic.

my tt is about my first visit to a book store in five years

These are great, and the image just perfect!

To echo another commenter here, no wonder I'm screwed! Great list- thanks for commenting on mine as well!

Excellent list, Christine! :D And what an awesome picture, too.

LOLOL! Those are just great, and what a neat idea for a TT!

It's funny how proverbs can contradict -- there's plenty of wisdom in all of them, even though they contradict, and I guess that's illustrative of just how dang complicated and contradictory we humans can be!

Happy TT, my friend!

Makes sense to me... oh, wait.

Those are hilarious...and make me think humans are absolutely mad. It doesn't make any sense does it? Can you imagine an alien from another planet trying to understand us ha ha what a good laugh I just had!

Well.

No wonder I'm so screwed up.

Excellent, excellent list. Thank you.

I loved the pairs, Christine!! I can't even PICK my favorite, I love them all! Might go with the writing one...hehe.
